METI Signs Memorandum of Cooperation on Energy Transition with the Ministry of Energy and Mines of the Republic of Peru

On Sunday, November 17, 2024, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry of Japan (METI) and the Ministry of Energy and Mines (MINEM) of the Republic of Peru signed a memorandum of cooperation (MOC) regarding energy transition.
The MOC was signed by Mr. MUTO Yoji, Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry, and H.E. Mr. Romulo Mucho Mamani, Minister of Energy and Mines of the Republic of Peru. Mr. MATSUO Takehiko, METI’s Vice-Minister, attended the related ceremony held in conjunction with Prime Minister ISHIBA Shigeru on his visit to Lima, the Republic of Peru.
1.Overview
With the signing of the MOC, Japan and the Republic of Peru share recognition of the significance of pursuing a common goal of net-zero emissions and carbon neutrality through various pathways and will further promote and deepen cooperation in the areas such as renewable energy, energy efficiency, and hydrogen and ammonia.
2.Overview of Cooperation Areas
Based on the MOC, Japan and the Republic of Peru intend to strengthen communication and exchange, with the aim of intensifying cooperation in energy transition. Potential areas of cooperation may include, but are not limited to the following:
- renewable energy (solar, wind, geothermal, among others), energy efficiency and energy management including energy storage;
- renewable and low carbon hydrogen and its derivatives (such as ammonia and e-fuel); and
- promotion of opportunities of investment in renewable and clean energies.
