Seventh Meeting of the Japan-Viet Nam Joint Committee on Cooperation in Industry, Trade and Energy Held

On Friday, December 20, 2024, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) held the Seventh Japan-Viet Nam Joint Committee on Cooperation in Industry, Trade and Energy, under the co-chairmanship of Mr. Muto Yoji, Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry, and H.E. Mr. Nguyen Hong Dien, Minister of Industry and Trade, the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam. At the meeting, the two ministers confirmed that Japan and Viet Nam will further develop bilateral economic ties. Following this, they agreed on a joint ministerial statement.

Under the committee, Japan and Viet Nam have been discussing a wide variety of cooperation projects in the fields of industry, trade, and energy at the ministerial level.

At the seventh meeting, the two sides held discussions on strengthening supply chain resilience, including the utilization of the Global South Future-Oriented Co-Creation Project, cooperation in securing supplies of critical minerals, including rare earths, and energy cooperation under the Asia Zero Emission Community (AZEC) in the fields of energy transition, offshore wind power generation, nuclear power, and LNG. They confirmed that Japan and Viet Nam will further fortify their efforts.

Furthermore, the two sides issued a joint ministerial statement.
