Minister Muto Holds Meeting with H.E. Pichai Chunhavajira, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance of the Kingdom of Thailand

On Thursday, February 20, Mr. Muto Yoji, Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry, held a meeting with H.E. Pichai Chunhavajira, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance of the Kingdom of Thailand. They exchanged opinions on bilateral cooperation primarily focusing on the automobile industry. Minister Muto also attended the Thailand-Japan Investment Forum and delivered his opening remarks there.

1. Meeting with H.E. Pichai Chunhavajira, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance of the Kingdom of Thailand

Minister Muto held a meeting with Deputy Prime Minister Pichai to exchange views on the importance of achieving decarbonization and strengthening international competitiveness in the automotive industries of both countries. The two ministers agreed to work closely together towards the early convening of the Energy and Industry Dialogue.

2. Attendance at the Thailand-Japan Investment Forum

Minister Muto participated in the Thailand-Japan Investment Forum and delivered his opening remarks. In his speech, he mentioned that approximately 6,000 Japanese companies, the largest number in ASEAN, have established operations in the Kingdom of Thailand, and commended the strong economic relationship between the two countries.

He also mentioned the automotive industry, which is the pillar of economic cooperation with the Kingdom of Thailand, the long history of collaboration in building supply chains, the importance of a multi-pathway strategy to ensure that Thailand remains a hub for exports and production, and pioneering efforts in batteries, hydrogen and other technologies to realize this strategy.
Minister Muto also expressed his anticipation that Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan will be an opportunity to further enhance business exchanges to solve the common challenge to both countries of progressively aging societies, under the theme of the Thai pavilion, “Thailand Connecting Lives for Greatest Happiness.
