State Minister Koga Holds Meeting with H.E. Mr. Parks Tau, Minister of Trade, Industry and Competition, Republic of South Africa

On Tuesday, March 18, 2025, Mr. Koga Yuichiro, State Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry, held a meeting with H.E. Mr. Parks Tau, Minister of Trade, Industry and Competition, South Africa. The two sides exchanged views on the further development of bilateral economic ties and collaboration within G20.

State Minister Koga welcomed his reunion with Minister Tau during his visit to Japan after the meeting that they held during the opportunity provided by the Mining Indaba 2025 in Cape Town in February 2025. At the meeting this time, State Minister Koga expressed his congratulations on South Africa’s assumption of the G20 presidency. Following this, the two sides held discussions on the improvement of the business environment in South Africa to strengthen bilateral economic ties with the country, which is home to the largest number of Japanese company bases on the African continent. In addition, they confirmed the progress made in bilateral energy cooperation and the importance of WTO reform to maintain the rules-based international order and then exchanged views on further cooperation between Japan and South Africa related to the issues within G20 featured under South Africa’s presidency in 2025.
