Aiming for “a society where people can make themselves healthy naturally”, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) has been encouraging the creation of new services based on the effective use of personal health records (PHR). As part of this initiative, METI plans to provide visitors to Expo 2025, Osaka, Kansai with the hands-on experience of PHR-based services on the theme, “Unlock a New Wellness Era with PHR.” On Wednesday, April 30, the Ministry opened a special website with information about this hands-on experience.

1. Outline of the hands-on experience of PHR-based services provided at Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai

At Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, METI will provide visitors with the hands-on experience of PHR-based services that will become available in the not-too-distant future on the theme, “Unlock a New Wellness Era with PHR.” Personal health records (PHR) encompass a range of data and include individuals’ daily health data related to diet, sleep and exercise; medical and nursing care data, such as health checkup information and prescriptions; and also the same data stored as lifetime electronic records. By using their own PHR, a person can check their health status at any time and receive appropriate health advice based on the status. At Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, METI will provide visitors with the hands-on experience of PHR-based services related four items: diet, exercise, sleep and lifestyle.

Visitors to the Expo can experience PHR-based services at the Expo Exhibition Center “WASSE” and “Future Life Experience (FLE)” around the Health and Wellbeing Week (from Friday, June 20 to Tuesday, July 1, 2025), which is one of the Expo 2025 Theme Weeks. For some PHR-based services, hands-on experiences will be available throughout the Expo period, not limited to the Theme Week period, both within and outside the aforementioned two venues.

2. Special website opened only during the Expo period

METI opened a special website on Wednesday, April 30 in order to provide information about the hands-on experiences of PHR-based services in an easy-to-understand manner, including the details of the experiences and when and where they are available, as well as the information that visitors need to know in advance, such as the details of the preparations that they are asked to make to ensure they can smoothly participate in the services. Videos showing how people’s lives will change by using their PHR and PHR-based services in the not-too-distant future are also posted on the website.
