Signing Ceremony for MOU for Collaboration Between Companies and Launch Ceremony for a Framework for Public-Private Collaboration Between METI and Vestas in the Wind Power Sector

On July 30, Mr. Matsuo Takehiko, Vice-Minister for International Affairs of the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI), witnessed a signing ceremony for a memorandum of understanding (MOU) for collaboration between Vestas and Nippon Steel Corporation in the supply of tower steel for markets in Europe, Asia and Japan. Moreover, METI and Vestas launched a framework for public-private collaboration, with the aims of promoting such collaboration between companies in the wind power sector and discussing and working together on the continuous and stable deployment of wind energy and the promotion of investment in wind turbine manufacturing bases in Japan.
1. Collaboration between Vestas and Nippon Steel Corporation
In the presence of Vice-Minister for International Affairs Matsuo as a witness, Vestas and Nippon Steel Corporation signed an MOU to facilitate the execution of wind power projects in Japan and to strengthen supply chains in the domestic and global wind power markets.
The two companies will jointly pursue global business opportunities and promote collaboration in the supply of tower steel from Nippon Steel’s East Nippon Works Kimitsu Area and Kyushu Works Oita Area to markets in Europe, Asia, and Japan.
2. Launching a framework for public-private collaboration (study group)
METI and Vestas launched a collaboration framework for continuous discussion and cooperation on the continuous and stable large-scale deployment of wind energy in Japan and the promotion of investment in wind turbine manufacturing resilience in Japan. The study group will address key themes, including continuous and stable project formation, Japanese companies’ participation in Vestas’ wind turbine supply chain, and investment in the local production of key components.
