Japan-Ukraine Economic Reconstruction Promotion Forum Held

On Monday, August 4, 2025, Mr. Kato Akiyoshi, Parliamentary Vice-Minister of the Economy, Trade and Industry, participated in the Japan-Ukraine Economic Reconstruction Promotion Forum and delivered remarks stating that Japan will strongly support Ukraine in specifying Japan-Ukraine cooperation projects to be undertaken by private companies. In addition, he witnessed an unveiling ceremony for 29 new cooperation documents between related companies and organizations from both countries, including a joint statement by METI, the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), and the Ministry of Economy, Environment and Agriculture of Ukraine.

On Monday, August 4, the Japan-Ukraine Economic Reconstruction Promotion Forum was held in Tokyo, jointly hosted by METI, the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO), and the Ministry of Economy, Environment and Agriculture of Ukraine. Attending the forum from the Government of Japan were Parliamentary Vice-Minister of the Economy, Trade and Industry Kato and Mr. Fujii Hisayuki, State Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, and from the Government of Ukrainian were H.E. Mr. Taras Kachika, Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration of Ukraine, H.E. Mr. Andrii Sybiha, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, H.E. Ms. Oleksii Sobolev, Minister of Economy, Environment and Agriculture of Ukraine, and as a special guest, Ms. Olena Zelenska, The First Lady of Ukraine.

At the beginning of the forum, Parliamentary Vice-Minister Kato stated that the government and the private sector will work together in providing support for the reconstruction of Ukraine as a uniquely Japanese form of contribution. He also stated that Japan will strengthen its support for Japanese companies entering the Ukrainian market by specifying Japan-Ukraine cooperation projects, including a 26 billion yen demonstration project through UNIDO, support for a 26 billion yen demonstration project to support Ukraine's reconstruction in cooperation with neighboring countries in Central and Eastern Europe, and continued dispatch of public-private missions to the Ukrainian capital of Kyiv, and key cities such as Lviv.

At the forum, a Joint Statement was delivered by METI, UNIDO and the Ministry of Economy, Environment and Agriculture of Ukraine for the effective implementation of projects executed by Japanese companies with UNIDO's support.

Furthermore, in the presence of Parliamentary Vice-Minister Kato and Deputy Prime Minister Kachika, an unveiling ceremony was held for 29 cooperation documents between related companies and organizations from both countries in areas such as infrastructure, agriculture, and IT.

Through these efforts, METI will continue to implement initiatives to support the recovery of Ukraine and help foster the economic growth of the country going forward
