The 41st Japan-Australia Resources and Energy Dialogue Held

The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry and Australian Government agencies, including the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water and the Department of Industry, Science and Resources, held the 41st Japan-Australia Resources and Energy Dialogue in Canberra. Through the dialogue, the two governments discussed their respective energy policies and potential future collaborative opportunities.
Japan-Australia Resources and Energy Dialogue
On 14 August, 2025, Ms. Ueno Asako, Deputy Commissioner for International Affairs, Agency for Natural Resources and Energy, Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, Japan, together with Mr. Wakuda Hajime, Director-General, Natural Resources and Fuel Department, held a policy dialogue with the Australian Government’s Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water; Department of Industry, Science and Resources; Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade; and the Treasury. The policy dialogue took place based on the Memorandum of Cooperation on Energy and Minerals Cooperation signed in June 2019.
In the policy dialogue, Japan and Australia shared their updates on energy resources and net-zero policies and the investment environment for LNG, coal, renewable energies and critical minerals. Additionally, both countries also discussed potential future collaborative opportunities within bilateral and multilateral frameworks towards the net-zero targets by 2050.
