Mr. Takeuchi Shinji, Parliamentary Vice-Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry, attended the APEC Energy Ministerial Meeting held in Busan, the Republic of Korea (ROK), from Wednesday, August 27, to Thursday, August 28, 2025. In addition to attending the meeting, he also held bilateral meetings with ministers and senior officials from the United States, the ROK, and New Zealand.

2. Outline of the discussions
- At the meeting, participants held discussions focusing on three topics: [i] electricity expansion for a stable supply, [ii] strengthening grid security and reliability, and [iii] AI-driven energy innovation.
- Parliamentary Vice-Minister Takeuchi emphasized the growing importance of pursuing various and realistic pathways toward net zero emissions, as well as simultaneously achieving a triple breakthrough of decarbonization, economic growth, and energy security. He also outlined Japan’s policy and initiatives related to the above three topics.
- At the conclusion of the meeting, a joint statement was issued.

2.Bilateral meetings with other countries
Taking the opportunity of the ministerial meeting, Parliamentary Vice-Minister Takeuchi held bilateral meetings with ministers and senior officials from the United States, the ROK, and New Zealand to exchange views on matters including bilateral and multilateral cooperation in the energy sector.
1. Meeting with Mr. James Danly, Deputy Secretary of Energy of the United States
Parliamentary Vice-Minister Takeuchi met with Deputy Secretary Danly and exchanged views on matters including bilateral cooperation in the areas of LNG, nuclear energy, and critical minerals.

2. Meeting with Mr. Simon Watts, Minister for Energy of New Zealand
Parliamentary Vice-Minister Takeuchi met Minister Watts and exchanged views on matters including bilateral cooperation in the areas of hydrogen and geothermal power generation.

3. Meeting with Mr. Kim Jung-Kwan, Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy of the ROK
Parliamentary Vice-Minister Takeuchi met with Minister Kim and exchanged views on matters including bilateral cooperation in the areas of hydrogen and ammonia.
