External Economic Policy

Mr. Matsuo Takehiko, Vice-Minister for International Affairs at the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, held a meeting with Mr. Gareth Davies CB, Permanent Secretary of the Department for Business and Trade of the United Kingdom. Both sides affirmed continued collaboration towards strengthening bilateral economic relations.

During the meeting, both sides discussed a workplan for implementing cooperation regarding the Industrial Strategy Partnership which was confirmed at the 2nd Japan-UK Strategic Economic Policy and Trade Dialogue held on March 7, 2025, and confirmed the main areas and directions to be pursued in the future.

They then exchanged views on collaboration in the international arena including the World Trade Organization (WTO) and the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) and on cooperation in economic security. They affirmed continued close collaboration between the two countries.

Both sides issued a joint press release following the meeting.
