Parliamentary Vice-Minister Kato Attends the G20 Energy Transitions Ministers’ Meeting

On Friday, October 10, Mr. Kato Akiyoshi, Parliamentary Vice-Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry, attended the G20 Energy Transitions Ministers’ Meeting held in Durban, the Republic of South Africa. In addition to attending the meeting, he held bilateral meetings with ministers from South Africa and the United Kingdom, and visited Toyota South Africa Motors (Pty) Ltd.

2. Bilateral meetings

Taking advantage of the occasion, Parliamentary Vice-Minister Kato held bilateral meetings with ministers from South Africa and the United Kingdom to exchange views on bilateral and multilateral cooperation in the energy sector.

(1) Meeting with Ms. Samantha Jane Graham-Maré, Deputy Minister of Electricity and Energy of the Republic of South Africa

He exchanged views with Deputy Minister Graham-Maré on the outcomes of the meeting and bilateral cooperation in the energy sector, including hydrogen and sustainable fuels.

(2) Meeting with Mr. Michael Shanks, Minister of State for Energy of the United Kingdom

He exchanged views with Minister Shanks on the outcomes of the meeting, the upcoming COP30 in November, and bilateral cooperation in the energy sector, including offshore wind and nuclear energy.

3. Visit to Toyota South Africa Motors Durban plant

During the official trip, Parliamentary Vice-Minister Kato visited the Durban plant of Toyota South Africa Motors, which conducts local automobile production. He received an explanation of the business environment of South Africa’s automotive industry and the company’s efforts and exchanged views on potential public-private collaboration.
