METI Parliamentary Vice-Minister Ochi Visits the United Arab Emirates

From Sunday, November 2, to Tuesday, November 4, Mr. Ochi Toshiyuki, Parliamentary Vice-Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry, visited the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

In the UAE, he attended the opening ceremony for the Abu Dhabi International Petroleum Exhibition and Conference (ADIPEC), and taking the opportunity, he exchanged opinions with dignitaries of various countries and held a meeting with H.E. Mr. Suhail Mohamed Al Mazrouei, Minister of Energy and Infrastructure of the country.

1. Attending ADIPEC

Parliamentary Vice-Minister Ochi attended the opening ceremony for ADIPEC, an event positioned as one of the world’s largest exhibitions and conferences in the petroleum and natural gas industries, together with government ministers of the UAE, government dignitaries of other countries and top executives of international oil companies.

Taking advantage of this opportunity, he held talks with H.E. Dr. Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, Group CEO of Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC), Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology, and Special Envoy to Japan, H.E. Mr. Suhail Mohamed Al Mazrouei, Minister of Energy and Infrastructure, H.E. Mr. Mohamed Bin Mubarak Al Fadhel Al Mazrouei, Minister of State for Defence Affairs, and Mr. Murray Auchincloss, CEO of BP. He expressed his gratitude for the cooperation with Japan to date and exchanged views on further deepening cooperation in the future.

In addition, METI exhibited cutting-edge technologies at the Japan Pavilion under the theme of “Solutions for Achieving Sustainable Society.” This included Japan’s advanced decarbonization technologies, including those for production, transportation, and utilization of LNG, hydrogen and ammonia, as well as cutting-edge technologies including AI. Parliamentary Vice-Minister Ochi visited the pavilion and display booths showcased by the Japan Organization for Metals and Energy Security (JOGMEC) and other Japanese companies. He also exchanged views with stakeholders and other members of the companies concerning businesses in Abu Dhabi, future directions of business development, the current situation of energy markets, including those of decarbonization, and other issues.

2. Meeting with H.E. Mr. Suhail Mohamed Al Mazrouei, Minister of Energy and Infrastructure, UAE

During the meeting, Parliamentary Vice-Minister Ochi conveyed his gratitude for the stable supply of crude oil to Japan and for the role that the UAE plays within OPEC+ in stabilizing the international crude oil market. They also exchanged views on further strengthening cooperation in the field of energy.
