Minister Akazawa Holds Meeting with the Honourable Mélanie Joly, Canada’s Minister of Industry and Minister Responsible for Canada Economic Development for Quebec Regions

On Thursday, November 27, Mr. Akazawa Ryosei, Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry, held a meeting with the Honourable Mélanie Joly, Canada’s Minister of Industry and Minister responsible for Canada Economic Development for Quebec Regions. Both sides exchanged views on strengthening bilateral economic relations.
During the meeting, Minister Akazawa outlined topics such as key policies of the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) and the progress made in bilateral economic cooperation. Both sides exchanged views on the potential for further cooperation in critical minerals, industrial science and technology, and other areas.
Minister Akazawa conveyed that it is regrettable that the Government of Canada has decided on tariff-rate quotas for steel products and tariff measures for targeted steel derivative products, and urged reconsideration of these measures.
