Minister Akazawa Receives a Courtesy Call from Chair Yasunaga of Keidanren’s Committee on the Global South and Japan-Brazil Economic Committee

On Thursday, January 8, Mr. Akazawa Ryosei, Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry, received a courtesy call from Mr. Yasunaga Tatsuo, Chair of the Committee on the Global South and Chair of the Japan-Brazil Economic Committee of Keidanren (Representative Director and Chair of the Board of Directors, Mitsui & Co., Ltd.).

At the beginning of the courtesy call, Chair Yasunaga handed to Minister Akazawa the joint proposal on strengthening collaboration with the Global South, a document compiled at a meeting of the Committee on the Global South of Keidanren, and the joint statement on the promotion of Japan-Brazil economic relations, a document adopted at the meeting of the Japan-Brazil Economic Committee jointly held by Keidanren and the Brazilian National Confederation of Industry (CNI) in São Paulo, the Federative Republic of Brazil.

In response, Minister Akazawa expressed his appreciation for the concrete proposals from Japan’s business community and its Brazilian counterparts for the development of economic ties with the Global South, including Mercosur, and for further promotion of bilateral trade and investment between Japan and Brazil.

Concerning approaches to strengthening collaboration with the Global South, Minister Akazawa stated that METI intends to strategically implement a variety of trade policies in light of the proposals. He continued that METI, aiming to further strengthen economic ties with Mercosur, would support activities of Japanese companies by creating business opportunities and supporting corporate activities, based on opinions from the industrial sector.
