Parliamentary Vice-Minister Komori Attends the 8th Japan-Pakistan Government-Business Joint Dialogue and the Pakistan Business Forum

On Friday, January 16, Mr. KOMORI Takuo, Parliamentary Vice-Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry, attended the 8th Japan-Pakistan Government-Business Joint Dialogue and the Pakistan Business Forum.

At the Japan-Pakistan Government-Business Joint Dialogue, participants exchanged views on ways to further strengthen economic relations between Japan and the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, as well as on improving the investment environment in Pakistan. Parliamentary Vice-Minister Komori also delivered remarks at the Pakistan Business Forum.

1.The 8th Japan-Pakistan Government-Business Joint Dialogue

Parliamentary Vice-Minister Komori attended the 8th Japan-Pakistan Government-Business Joint Dialogue and served as a co-chair alongside Mr. Rana Ihsaan Afzal Khan, Coordinator to the Prime Minister on Commerce of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan. This Dialogue was held in Tokyo for the first time in approximately seven years, following the sixth meeting in December 2018. The event brought together not only government agencies from both countries but also representatives from the Japan-Pakistan Business Co-operation Committee and the Pakistan Japan Business Forum (PJBF). In total, approximately 80 participants from both the public and private sectors attended the meeting.

During the meeting, participants exchanged views on measures to further enhance economic relations between the two countries, including the improvement of the trade and investment environment. The Pakistani side expressed its interest in Japan’s cooperation in sectors such as minerals and mining, agricultural products, and information technology. The Japanese side reported on the activities of Japanese companies operating in Pakistan and outlined the challenges they face in conducting business in the country. Participants confirmed the importance of continued follow-up by both governments on the matters discussed, as well as the need for the public and private sectors to work together to further advance bilateral economic relations.

2.Pakistan Business Forum

Parliamentary Vice-Minister Komori delivered remarks at the Pakistan Business Forum, co-hosted by the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) and the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI).

In his remarks, Parliamentary Vice-Minister Komori expressed the Government of Japan’s intention to work closely with the Government of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan to improve the business environment and promote trade and investment between the two countries.

Mr. Rana Ihsaan Afzal Khan, Coordinator to the Prime Minister on Commerce, as well as Mr. TERAKAWA Akira, Chairman of the Japan-Pakistan Business Co-operation Committee, also delivered statements underscoring the importance of further strengthening economic relations between Japan and Pakistan.
