Global Startup EXPO to Take Place in Osaka in the fourth quarter of 2026

Joint News Release with the Kansai Bureau of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI Kansai)
The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) has approved the joint proposal from Osaka Prefecture and Osaka City and decided to hold a startup event titled Global Startup EXPO in Osaka in the fourth quarter of 2026. The event will showcase to the world cutting-edge technologies and innovation services developed by startups, particularly in the deep tech sector.
Last year, METI hosted a startup event titled Global Startup EXPO at Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan. The event welcomed top domestic and international entrepreneurs and investors, particularly in the deep tech sector. For the second Global Startup EXPO scheduled for this year, METI opened a call for host cities and organizers from the local governments of The Second Phase of the Startup City Project in Japan. Following the screening process, METI approved the joint proposal from Osaka Prefecture and Osaka City and decided to hold Global Startup EXPO 2026 in Osaka in the fourth quarter.
Global Startup EXPO 2026, the second edition of the event, will be organized by an executive committee comprising the local governments, universities, and relevant organizations in the economic sector and other fields in the Kyoto-Osaka-Kobe area, including Osaka Prefecture and Osaka City. The committee will jointly organized in partnership with METI, the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO), the New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO), and other government-related agencies. Carrying over the vision of Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, the event will focus on advanced technologies designated as National Strategic Technology Areas, we will carry out the event in collaboration with startups nationwide and a broad range of stakeholders from industry, government, academia, and finance in startup ecosystem hubs across Japan, with a particular focus on the Kyoto-Osaka-Kobe area.
Through these initiatives, the event aims to attract greater investment, particularly in the deep tech sector, and to enhance talent development. In doing so, it will serve as a national flagship event that further advances the global integration of Japan’s startup ecosystem.
