Minister Akazawa Holds Meeting with U.S. Secretary of the Treasury Scott Bessent

At 10:00 a.m. today, Mr. Akazawa Ryosei, Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry, held a meeting with Mr. Scott Bessent, U.S. Secretary of the Treasury, for approximately half an hour during his visit to Japan.

During the meeting, they concurred on further strengthening Japan-U.S. cooperation in the fields of energy and critical minerals, with the outcomes of the March Japan-U.S. summit meeting in mind.

Both parties welcomed the progress on the Japan-U.S. agreement concluded in July 2025, including the announcement of new projects under the Japan-U.S. Strategic Investment Initiative. Regarding the new tariff measures taken by the United States, they reaffirmed that both Japan and the United States will continue to faithfully implement last year’s agreement.
