METI Hosts Second AZEC Leading Action Forum (AZEC LEAF)

From Monday, May 25, to Thursday, May 28, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry hosted the second AZEC Leading Action Forum (AZEC LEAF) in Tokyo and Osaka. The forum convened working-level officials from Asia Zero Emission Community (AZEC) partner countries, the Asian Development Bank (ADB), and the Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia (ERIA), to share national initiatives to ensure energy security in light of the current situation in the Middle East. They discussed future challenges to strengthen the resilience of the energy supply structure in the medium to long term.

From Monday, May 25, to Thursday, May 28, METI hosted the second AZEC Leading Action Forum, which convened working-level officials from the AZEC partner countries, the Asian Development Bank (ADB), and the Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia (ERIA).
During the forum, the participants shared policy trends and challenges in each country to strengthen energy security within the AZEC region, and discussed possibilities for cooperation with other countries on structural responses, including diversification of energy sources such as LNG, nuclear power, and biofuels, industrial advancement through energy efficiency efforts, and transition finance.
To encourage cooperation through the use of Japan’s technologies, participants toured facilities related to energy technologies and participated in an opinion-exchange session.
