METI Signs Memorandum of Cooperation with the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation (MHESI) of the Kingdom of Thailand on Low-Earth-Orbit Satellite Constellations

On Wednesday, June 24, a signing ceremony for a Memorandum of Cooperation (MOC) to conduct Japan-Thailand joint studies on low-Earth-orbit satellite constellations took place at the Residence of the Ambassador of Japan to the Kingdom of Thailand.

The MOC was signed by Mr. MATSUO Takehiko, Vice-Minister for International Affairs of METI, and Prof. Dr. Supachai Pathumnakul, Permanent Secretary of MHESI, and was witnessed by Prof. Dr. Yodchanan Wongsawat, Minister of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation of the Kingdom of Thailand, and Mr. OTAKA Masato, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Kingdom of Thailand.

Under this MOC, METI and MHESI, in collaboration with the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA), the Geo-Informatics and Space Technology Development Agency (GISTDA), and relevant industry stakeholders, will conduct joint studies on low-Earth-orbit satellite constellations, which could serve as an important foundation for supporting people’s daily lives, industry, and security, exploring the possibility of contributing to Thailand by utilizing Japanese technologies, with a view to leading to concrete cooperation.

Following the signing, METI and MHESI affirmed their commitment to steadily promote cooperation under this MOC.
