Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry of Japan Social Media Moderation Policy

1. Official administration

(1) The social media accounts of the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) (hereinafter referred to as the “METI accounts”) are managed by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry of Japan.

(2) Content of posts
The contents of the METI accounts include METI’s policies, photographs and videos.

2. Management of comments

(1) Responding to comments

The METI accounts are focused on an informational purpose only, so the Ministry will not respond to any comments or messages posted on the METI accounts.
METI accepts users’ opinions and comments to METI through a contact form on the METI website.

(2) Deleting comments

METI reserves the right to exercise its editorial control over the METI accounts, and might hide (in part or in full), delete or decline comments which are unrelated to the original topics or deemed to fall under any of the following conditions without notifying the users.

1. Comments that infringe or may infringe a law, ordinance, or other regulations;
2. Comments that violate public order and morals;
3. Comments that promote criminal acts;
4. Comments that slander or defame a particular individual, company, group, or other entities, or damage their reputation or trustworthiness;
5. Comments that are breaches of privacy, including disclosing and leaking personal information without the authorization of its owner;
6. Comments that involve or promote discrimination by race, creed, gender or the like;
7. Comments that breach third-party rights, including patents, design rights, copyrights, trademarks, and portrait rights;
8. Comments that are aimed at sales activities, political activities, religious activities, or other for profit activities;
9. Comments that include false information or significantly deviate from the truth;
10. Comments that use or provide, or may use or provide, harmful programs;
11. Comments with the same or similar contents posted repeatedly by the same user;
12. Comments that violate the terms and conditions of the hosting METI accounts’ policy;
13. Other comments considered to be inappropriate for the operation of the METI accounts

(3) Banning users

METI also reserves the right to ban users who post comments listed above. Those users who violate the moderation policy may be banned permanently.

(4) Banning the usage of the URL shortening service

METI prohibits the use of URL shortening service as a general rule, unless the social media has an automatic URL shortening service itself and cannot avoid its usage.

METI may at any time, without notice, revise this policy and other information contained in this page.

5. Intellectual property rights

Intellectual property rights over the photographs, illustrations, audio, video, and text, etc., posted on the METI accounts belong to METI or those with valid rights.

Users are free to use such as "Like (Facebook)" and "Repost (X)" functions (include similar functions) for the posts on the METI accounts. 

For the content where a third party holds copyrights or other rights, it is the responsibility of the user to obtain consent for use from the third party unless there is explicit indication that the rights have already been cleared.

If a third party holds rights to a part of the content, said fact may be directly or indirectly stated or indicated through source citations, but in some cases the part of the content to which the third party holds the rights may not be clear or may not be explicitly stated. It is the responsibility of the user to confirm the rights pertaining to the use of the content.

6. Disclaimer

Please note that, depending on users’ browsing environments, such as the types of browsers, users may have trouble browsing the METI accounts, such as unsmooth loading of the content on the linked websites.

METI is taking every possible care to ensure the accuracy of the information posted on the METI accounts. However, METI is not responsible for any consequences whatsoever that may result from decisions or actions taken by users based on the information on the METI accounts.

Please note that METI is not responsible for any inter-user trouble caused by the METI accounts or damages suffered as a result, or for any user-third party trouble caused by the METI accounts or damages suffered as a result.

The copyright and other rights of the posts, including comments, belong to the users who made the post. However, by posting content, it is deemed that the user licensed the right to utilize the content globally at no charge and on a non-exclusive basis to METI, and it is deemed that the user has consented not to exercise its copyright or other rights against METI.

Users may be transferred to a website managed and operated by another organization, company, or group through the links or other means on the METI accounts. METI bears no responsibility for the content on such websites or for any actions that users have taken based on the information on such websites.
