Opening Remarks

Political funds

Earlier, I submitted a letter of resignation to Chief Cabinet Secretary Matsuno.
At a time when many people have suspicions over political funds and when an investigation is ongoing, I have judged that I myself should take responsibility and submitted a letter of resignation upon the end of the Diet session. I have made this judgment because it is not desirable that the national administration and implementation of various policies be delayed.
As for my own political funds, close examination and checks regarding political fund reports, passbooks, administrative documents, and account books are being conducted once again. At this stage, when there is an ongoing investigation, there is nothing more that I can say, but I would like to fulfill my accountability at the earliest possible time while watching the progress of the investigation.
Regarding the intraparty faction Seiwakai’s political funds as well as my own, I will offer full cooperation if requested by the investigative authorities.
In any case, I apologize once again for creating suspicion over political funds and generating distrust in politics.
