Question-and-Answer Session
Leakage of water containing radioactive substances at TEPCO’s Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station
Q: Following the incident of leakage of contaminated water at the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station, at a meeting of the Council for the Reconstruction and Revitalization of Fukushima on February 18, you said that you would give strict guidance to Tokyo Electric Power. Please tell me specifically how you will deal with this matter.
A: Regarding the cases of physical exposure to contamination and water leakage at Tokyo Electric Power’s Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station, as you pointed out, at the meeting of the Council for the Reconstruction and Revitalization of Fukushima that was held on February 18, people from the local communities voiced worries and concerns about the safety of Tokyo Electric Power’s decommissioning work. A single mistake could lead to the loss of the trust of the local communities and society, so I would like Tokyo Electric Power to deal with this matter with the highest possible level of alertness in light of the local communities’ concerns and worries.
Tokyo Electric Power has presented recurrence prevention measures, but I have asked President Kobayakawa of Tokyo Electric Power to attend a meeting with me tomorrow so that I can instruct him to proceed with the decommissioning work as the top management task while making every possible effort to ensure safety, including thorough implementation of the recurrence prevention measures.
