Main Points
- The number of new foreign affiliates to Japan in a year reached a record high of 116 in 1995 FY.
- They achieved higher profits and productivity than their Japanese counterparts. Manufacturing sectors of foreign affiliates improved their business performance, for example, attaining a record high in average sales.
- In 1995 FY imports of foreign affiliates in Japan exceeded exports by 1.7 trillion yen.
- The number of Asian-headqurtered affiliates in Japan has been increasing recently, especially in the last three years. However, their sales and ratio of current profits were at a lower level than North American and European affiliates.

- Survey Target:Enterprises in which foreign ownership is at least one-third which reported as of the end of March 1996 to the Ministry of International Trade and Industry under the provisions of the Exchange Control Law that they intended to invest or had invested in Japan.
