State Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry
OGUSHI Masaki

Mr. Ogushi Masaki was appointed State Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry and State Minister of Cabinet Office on November 13, 2024.
He also assumes the key role at the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) of Director-General of Local Nuclear Emergency Response Headquarters. In this senior position, Mr. Ogushi’s primary responsibility is overseeing METI’s ongoing efforts to support the revitalization of Fukushima, and to promote the region’s Green Transformation.
Mr. Ogushi joins METI from the House of Representatives, the lower house of the National Diet of Japan, where he has represented constituents in the Kinki region since 2012.
During this time, Mr. Ogushi also served as the Parliamentary Vice-Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry and State Minister for Digital Transformation.
Prior to seeking elected office, Mr. Ogushi was an academic, holding teaching posts at the Japan Advanced Institute of Science and Technology and Bunri University of Hospitality.
Mr. Ogushi started his professional career in the private sector at Ishikawajima Harima Heavy Industries Co., Ltd.
Mr. Ogushi is a graduate of Tohoku University’s, Faculty of Engineering and completed the Master's program in Resource Engineering at the same university’s Graduate School. Additionally, Mr. Ogushi completed the Doctoral program at the Japan Advanced Institute of Science and Technology, earning a Ph.D. in Knowledge Science.
He was born on January 20,1966 in Hyogo Prefecture.
