Commencement of the First Meeting of Public-Private Committee on New Technologies toward Decarbonization of Aircraft

1. Objectives

For decarbonization of aircraft, efforts are being made to introduce innovative technologies which could reduce greenhouse gases (GHGs) from aircraft, including electrification, hydrogen-powered aircraft, under the circumstance of international trend toward decarbonized societies. It is crucial for the public and private sectors  to cooperate each other to advance development of safety standards including international standards as well as to promote technological development, in order to implement these new technologies in society, promote decarbonization of aircraft, and enhance the competitiveness of the Japanese aviation industry.
For these reason, METI and MLIT will jointly hold the Public-Private Committee on New Technologies toward Decarbonization of Aircraft, and discuss strategy that will help Japanese companies play a leading role in developing safety standards including international standardization toward the introduction of the outstanding technologies, and promote efforts for implementation of the Japanese companies’ outstanding technologies in society and enhancement of the competitiveness of the aviation industry.
