Agreement Reached on Inauguration of AZEC Japan-Indonesia Joint Task Force in Indonesia
September 21, 2023
On September 21 (simultaneous with local time), 2023, Japan and Indonesia agreed to inaugurate AZEC Japan-Indonesia Joint Task Force in Jakarta, Indonesia.
On September 21, 2023, in Jakarta, Indonesia, a mission of Japan’s representatives (including Mr. Maeda Tadashi, Special Advisor to the Cabinet, Mr. Kanasugi Kenji, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Indonesia, officials of the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) and of the Japan Bank for International Cooperation, and Japanese private sector executives) held a meeting with H.E. Mr. Airlangga Hartarto, Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Indonesia.
At the meeting, in view of the weight that both Japan and Indonesia place on developing specific projects and encouraging them with appropriate assistance in advancing their efforts for decarbonization, Japan and Indonesia agreed to inaugurate the AZEC Japan-Indonesia Joint Task Force as a framework under which the Japanese public and private sectors and the government of Indonesia, led by the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs, will hold discussions in Indonesia.
Under this framework, Japan and Indonesia will jointly hold discussions on challenges that projects for decarbonization may face and solutions thereto.
Going forward, Japan will strive to contribute to decarbonization in Asia through policy harmonization and support, working together with Indonesia and other AZEC partner countries.
For reference
Indonesia is the second partner country, after Viet Nam, to have agreed to establish a framework for holding local discussions between the Japanese public and private sectors, including Japanese companies, and the local government, since the launch of the AZEC framework at the ministerial meeting in March 2023.
