Launch of AI Safety Institute

Joint Release with Cabinet Office and Information-technology Promotion Agency

In response to the growing international interests about the AI safety, the AI Safety Institute is launched today within the Information-technology Promotion Agency (IPA) in collaboration with relevant ministries and agencies, including the Cabinet Office.

In response to the growing international interests about the AI safety, the AI Safety Institute (Director: Akiko Murakami) is launched today to examine the evaluation methods for AI safety and other related matters. The Institute will be established within the Information-technology Promotion Agency (IPA), in collaboration with relevant ministries and agencies, including the Cabinet Office.

In examining the standards and methods of AI safety evaluation, we will deepen cooperation with similar institute abroad, including the AI Safety Institute in the United States and the United Kingdom.

As the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, we will contribute to the activities of the AI Safety Institute by leveraging the knowledge and both domestic and international networks we have developed through the Information-technology Promotion Agency (IPA) and the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST).
