Minister Saito Holds Meeting with Mr. Taalaibek Omukeevich Ibraev, Minister of Energy of the Kyrgyz Republic

On Monday, September 9, 2024, Mr. Saito Ken, Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry, held a meeting with Mr. Taalaibek Omukeevich Ibraev, Minister of Energy of the Kyrgyz Republic, and exchanged opinions on bilateral cooperation in the fields of the economy and energy.
After the meeting, the two sides unveiled an intergovernmental Memorandum of Cooperation (MOC) concerning energy transition and witnessed the ceremony of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on projects by Japanese companies that will contribute to energy transition in the Kyrgyz Republic. Both sides welcomed the progress in concrete cooperation between the two countries.
In the meeting, the two sides exchanged views on bilateral cooperation in the fields of the economy and energy and confirmed they would further strengthen economic ties to realize energy transition.
Both sides unveiled the intergovernmental MOC on energy transition and attended the presentation of the MOU between the Ministry of Energy of the Kyrgyz Republic and Japanese companies concerning construction of hydroelectric power plants and other projects. The materialization of these projects is expected to accelerate future bilateral cooperation in the energy sector.

The agreement was concluded between the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry and the Ministry of Energy of the Kyrgyz Republic in order to promote and strengthen energy cooperation between Japan and the Kyrgyz Republic toward the realization of a realistic energy transition. It utilizes all available energy sources, technologies and options, including energy conservation; renewable energy; hydrogen; ammonia; e-fuel; carbon dioxide capture, utilization and storage (CCUS)/carbon recycling; and highly efficient power generation technology. To achieve this, the agreement clearly states support for formulation of a roadmap toward carbon neutrality.
