11th Japan-Mongolia Government and Business Sector Joint Committee Held

On Thursday, November 28, 2024, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) held the 11th Japan-Mongolia Government and Business Sector Joint Committee in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, to discuss various topics relevant to expanding trade and investment and strengthening cooperative relations between Japan and Mongolia. Mr. Matsuo Takehiko, Vice-Minister for International Affairs, attended the meeting as a representative of METI.
This meeting was held in Mongolia for the first time in seven years since the eighth meeting was held in the country in 2017. It brought together about 200 stakeholders from the public and private sectors in Japan and Mongolia, including Vice-Minister Matsuo, Mr. Igawahara Masaru, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Mongolia, and Mr. Tsubai Hiroyuki, Chairman, Japan-Mongolia Economic Committee, from Japan, as well as including H.E. Mr. Luvsannyam Gantumur, First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Development, and Ms. Bayasgalan, Secretary-General, Mongolian National Chamber of Commerce and Industry, from Mongolia.
At the meeting, Vice-Minister Matsuo stated that through the collaboration between Japan and Mongolia, Japan intends to identify approaches to solving its social challenges and contribute to leading approaches to economic growth in Mongolia. Moreover, he stated that recently the two countries have been accelerating lively personnel exchange in the academic sector, in particular, in the field of colleges of technology, and that he expects further growth of the two countries, taking advantage of the synergistic effect of Japan’s advanced technologies and Mongolia’s strong economic growth.
Some sessions were held to discuss Japan-Mongolia economic cooperation, and participants exchanged views on the potential for future cooperation in such fields as digital technology, healthcare, startups, business environment development, and promotion of the utilization of the Japan-Mongolia EPA, while referring to case examples in both Japan and Mongolia.
Taking the opportunity of the meeting, five cooperation projects developed by private companies in Japan and Mongolia were presented.
Following the meeting, Vice-Minister Matsuo also participated in a networking event and a reception party organized between Japanese and Mongolian companies.
