Minister Muto Attends the Special AEM-METI Consultation

On Tuesday, May 20, Mr. Muto Yoji, Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry, attended the Special AEM-METI Consultation (held online).
The Special ASEAN Economic Ministers-Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (AEM-METI) Consultation was held online on Tuesday, May 20. Participants discussed ways to strengthen Japan-ASEAN economic cooperation amid growing uncertainty in the global economy. Minister Muto stressed the importance of maintaining and strengthening the rules-based trade system and stated Japan’s intention to enhance cooperation for AI and next-generation vehicles in the industrial field as a key to industrial competitiveness for the future.
ASEAN countries reaffirmed their support for the rules-based multilateral trading system, with the WTO at its core. They also expressed their expectations for Japan-ASEAN cooperation for AI and next-generation vehicles in the industrial field.
Based on the discussion results, a joint media statement was issued after the meeting.
