12th Japan-Mongolia Government and Business Sector Joint Committee Held

On Wednesday, November 26, 2025, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) held the 12th Japan-Mongolia Government and Business Sector Joint Committee at Meiji Kinenkan in Tokyo, to discuss various topics relevant to expanding trade and investment and strengthening cooperative relations between Japan and Mongolia. Mr. Yamada Kenji, State-Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry, attended the meeting as a representative of METI. 

1. Japan-Mongolia Government and Business Sector Joint Committee

This meeting was held in Japan for the first time in three years since the 10th meeting was held in the country in 2022. It brought together a total of approximately 150 stakeholders from the public and private sectors in Japan and Mongolia, including State-Minister Yamada, Mr. Shimada Tomoaki, Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mr. Igawahara Masaru, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Mongolia, and Mr. Tsubai Hiroyuki, Chairman, Japan-Mongolia Economic Committee, from Japan, as well as Mr. Khassuuri Gankhuyag, Deputy Prime Minister, and Mr. Lkhagvajav Baatarjav, President & Chairman of the Board of the Mongolian National Chamber of Commerce and Industry, from Mongolia.

At the meeting, State-Minister Yamada stated that Japan and Mongolia have built strong relationships of trust while achieving cooperation and development in various fields related to the economy and investment. He also mentioned that the presentation delivered by Japan in the meeting regarding the initiatives could be defined as the first concrete step toward cooperation in developing economic activities and addressing global issues based on the Japan-Mongolia Special Strategic Partnership for Peace and Prosperity Action Program (2022-2031), which was signed by the leaders of the two countries in 2022.

In sessions that took place to discuss Japan-Mongolia economic cooperation, participants exchanged opinions on the potential for future cooperation in such fields as smart logistics, the environment, industry-academia collaboration projects, finance, business environment development, and promotion of utilization of the Japan-Mongolia EPA, while referring to case examples in both Japan and Mongolia.

Taking the opportunity of the meeting, three cooperation projects developed by private companies in the two countries were presented.

2. Meeting with Mongolian Deputy Prime Minister Gankhuyag

In conjunction with the Japan-Mongolia Government and Business Sector Joint Committee, State-Minister Yamada held a meeting with Mongolian Deputy Prime Minister Gankhuyag. In the meeting, they exchanged opinions regarding the future of bilateral cooperation in the field of trade and investment and business environment improvement. State-Minister Yamada referred to Japan’s initiatives which contribute to strengthening economic relationships with Mongolia and conveyed the wish to continue to encourage exchanges between private companies and human resources.
