Signing of the Japan-Bangladesh Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA)

On Friday, February 6, the Japan-Bangladesh Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) was signed between the two countries.
1. Overview
On Friday, February 6, Mr. Horii Iwao, State Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, and H.E. Sk. Bashir Uddin, Adviser of the Ministry of Commerce of Bangladesh, signed the Japan-Bangladesh Economic Partnership Agreement, for which negotiations started in 2024.
Under this EPA, tariffs will be eliminated on a wide range of goods, including steel, automobile parts, textiles, and electronic components, which are currently subject to high tariffs.

2. Establishment of trade and investment rules
Through the EPA, not only the elimination of tariffs but also the establishment of the rules for various fields including investment, trade in services, e-commerce, intellectual property, customs procedures, and trade facilitation will enable Japanese companies operating in Bangladesh to conduct their economic activities smoothly.
