The IAEA Published a Report on the Analytical Results of the Additional Measures under the IAEA Framework
May 1, 2026
Joint News Release with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs
On Thursday, April 30, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) published a report on the analytical results of ALPS treated water before dilution with seawater related to the Additional Measures under the IAEA framework.
On Thursday, April 30, the IAEA published a report on the analytical results of ALPS treated water before dilution with seawater collected by IAEA officials, experts from third-party laboratories selected by the IAEA and Tokyo Electric Power Company Holdings (TEPCO) in June 2025, related to the Additional Measures under the IAEA framework.
The report describes the analytical values of the concentrations of radioactive substances, such as tritium, reported by IAEA laboratories, third-party laboratories selected by the IAEA, and TEPCO (hereinafter referred to as “participating laboratories”), along with the comparison results.
The report notes that the measurement results reported by the participating laboratories are consistent with the conclusions of the IAEA Comprehensive Report released in July 2023, which found that the discharges as planned would have a negligible radiological impact on people and the environment.
The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry will continue to maintain close coordination with the IAEA in sharing information with the international community in a highly transparent manner and fostering better understanding of the safety of the discharge of ALPS treated water within both the domestic and international communities.
