The IAEA Published Reports on the Analytical Results of Additional Measures under the IAEA Framework
October 7, 2025
On Monday October 6 (local time in Vienna, Austria), the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) published two reports related to Additional Measures under the IAEA framework: (1) the report on the analytical results of ALPS treated water before dilution with seawater, and (2) the report on the analytical results of ALPS treated water diluted with seawater prior to the discharge into the sea.
On Monday October 6 (local time in Vienna, Austria), the IAEA published reports related to Additional Measures under the IAEA framework:
(1) The report on the analytical results of ALPS treated water before dilution with seawater collected in February 2025, and
(2) The report on the analytical results of ALPS treated water diluted with seawater prior to the discharge into the sea collected in April 2025.
Each report describes the analytical values of the concentrations of radioactive substances, such as tritium, reported by IAEA laboratories, third-party laboratories selected by the IAEA, and Tokyo Electric Power Company Holdings (hereinafter referred to as “participating laboratories”), along with the comparison results.
The two reports note that the analytical results reported by the participating laboratories are consistent with the conclusions of the IAEA Comprehensive Report released in July 2023, which found that the discharges as planned would have a negligible radiological impact on people and the environment.
Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry will continue to maintain close coordination with the IAEA in sharing information with the international community in a highly transparent manner and fostering better understanding of the safety of the discharge of ALPS treated water within both the domestic and international communities.
