April 15, 2025
On April 15, International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) officials and experts from third-party laboratories sampled ALPS treated water diluted with seawater prior to the discharge into the sea on the premises of Tokyo Electric Power Company Holdings (TEPCO)’s Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station (FDNPS) for the first time.
In September 2024, Japan and the IAEA concurred on conducting the additional measures under the IAEA framework. These additional measures were conducted following the measures in February 2025.
In the additional measures, IAEA officials and experts from laboratories from China, Republic of Korea, Russia, and Switzerland sampled ALPS-treated water diluted with seawater prior to the discharge into the sea on the premises of TEPCO’s FDNPS for the first time.
Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry will continue to maintain close coordination with the IAEA in sharing information with the international community in a highly transparent manner and fostering better understanding of the safety of the discharge of ALPS treated water within both the domestic and international communities.
