Question-and-Answer Session

Unit 2 of the Onagawa Nuclear Power Station

Q: The Tohoku Electric Power Company stopped a reactor at the Onagawa Nuclear Power Station yesterday. First of all, could you offer your view on this?

A: Regarding Unit 2 of the Onagawa Nuclear Power Station, a defect was confirmed in the equipment that measures neutrons inside the reactor on November 3. We received a report from the Tohoku Electric Power Company that they stopped the reactor and are currently investigating the cause of the defect.
We were also told that the company has not yet decided on the scheduled date to start power generation.
As I have repeated on numerous occasions, we expect the company to advance the process while meticulously checking each step of the work, prioritizing safety above all else, rather than just following a set procedure.

Q: Another question, please. As you just mentioned, the Tohoku Electric Power Company stated that they have not decided on the next operation. I would like to ask you anew about the future schedule or how much of the schedule they have in place.

A: As I mentioned earlier, the company is currently investigating the cause. So, we would like to wait for the results. I recognize that some concerns may arise about electricity supply and demand. However, concerning this electricity supply and demand, as I stated before, it is expected that an electricity reserve rate of 10% or more can be secured, and this expectation does not rely on the level of electricity from Unit 2 of the Onagawa Nuclear Power Station. Accordingly, I do not believe that the postponement of the reactor startup will cause an immediate impact on electricity supply and demand.
Once the investigation results are reported, I will rapidly make another announcement. At that time, I would appreciate your cooperation.
