Call for Applicants for FY2024 Nadeshiko Brands and Next Nadeshiko: Companies Supporting Dual Careers and Co-parenting Starts Today
August 26, 2024
Since 2012, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) and the Tokyo Stock Exchange (TSE) have jointly been selecting companies that are outstanding in terms of encouraging women's empowerment in the workplace and designating them as Nadeshiko Brands.
From the FY2023 program, METI and the TSE have been selecting outstanding companies for their efforts related to “support for all employees to manage to strike a balance between empowerment in the workplace and child rearing (i.e. dual careers and co-parenting) ”.
On this day, August 26, 2024, METI and the TSE will start a call for applicants for the FY2024 Nadeshiko Brands and Next Nadeshiko: Companies Supporting Dual Careers and Co-parenting.

1. Outline of the Nadeshiko Brand
The Nadeshiko Brand is an initiative aiming to introduce certain TSE-listed companies that are outstanding in terms of encouraging women’s empowerment in the workplace as attractive stocks to investors who place an emphasis on improving corporate value in the medium- and long-term, thereby further encouraging investments in such companies and accelerating such efforts by companies.
In light of the recent trends emphasizing human capital management, METI and the TSE have been selecting outstanding companies, focusing not only on their efforts to encourage women's empowerment in the workplace, but also on whether companies provide the systems and measures to promote women's empowerment that are linked to management strategies and on whether these initiatives contribute to improving corporate value.
Moreover, as an effort to encourage companies to disclose their non-financial information on women's empowerment in the workplace, METI will proactively publish related data on applicants to capital markets and labor markets.
2. Implementation policy in FY2024
METI and the TSE will select outstanding companies by industry as Nadeshiko Brands and as Next Nadeshiko: Companies Supporting Dual Careers and Co-parenting from among all TSE-listed companies that have answered the Survey on Enterprises Encouraging Women's Empowerment in the Workplace.
To encourage women’s empowerment in the workplace in ways will lead to the enhancement of corporate value, METI and the TSE consider it important for companies to advance both “support for consistent career development from recruitment to promotion” and “support for dual careers and co-parenting.” In this context, METI and the TSE will select around up to 30 companies that promote these efforts as Nadeshiko Brands.
In addition, METI and the TSE will also select around up to 20 companies for their outstanding efforts related to “support for dual careers and co-parenting” as a Next Nadeshiko: Companies Supporting Dual Careers and Co-parenting.
Companies are eligible to apply as either a Nadeshiko Brand or a Next Nadeshiko: Companies Supporting Dual Careers and Co-parenting, or both, whichever they prefer. (Please note that if a company is selected as a Nadeshiko Brand, the company will not be selected as a Next Nadeshiko: Companies Supporting Dual Careers and Co-parenting.)
