October 17, 2024
The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) will exhibit the Japanese Government Pavilion (Japan Pavilion) at Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan. The uniform to be worn exclusively by the attendants who will welcome many domestic and international visitors at the Japan Pavilion has been finalized.
Note: The attendants have been informally selected from among many applicants in all age groups from young to elderly people.
Designed based on the concept of “embody Japanese aesthetics”
The uniform for the attendants of the Japan Pavilion has been designed from a comprehensive perspective, including not only comfort, precautions against heat, and functionality, but also factors such as the use of environmentally friendly materials and recycling after the Expo. Under the concept of “embody Japanese aesthetics,” the design was made by Mr. NAKATA Yuya,* the creative director, who is active in the management of fashion brands. The design is based on the structure of the kimono—traditional Japanese clothing—and embodies a Japanese sensibility that values blank spaces.
One of the characteristics of the uniform is its flexibility, allowing each attendant of the Japan Pavilion to customize the style. It is designed so that anyone can wear it in various ways, regardless of age or gender. It also utilizes a mono-material, without buttons and zippers, making it easy to be recycled into a different product.
Uses environmentally friendly, sustainable materials
The uniform also utilizes environmentally friendly, sustainable materials. For example, materials such as plant-derived polyester fiber and recycled fiber made from used plastic bottles are used. After the Expo, these uniforms are scheduled to be recycled into other products.
The uniform for the attendants of the Japan Pavilion is developed under sponsorship by Toray Industries, Inc., Teijin Frontier Co., Ltd., and Maxim.
