Guidance for Companies and Local Governments on the Introduction of Femtech to Address Women's Health Issues Released
May 27, 2026
The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) released the Guidance for Companies and Local Governments on the Introduction of Femtech to Address Women's Health Issues, which summarizes key points and examples of how to utilize Femtech as one measure in addressing women's health issues.
1. Background
METI has been working to create workplaces where working women can maximize their potential and thrive by developing an environment that allows them to balance life events such as pregnancy and childbirth with their work, and to appropriately address health issues that are unique to women. To this end, METI conducted a total of 79 demonstration projects utilizing Femtech* and other related products and services over a five-year period from FY2021 to FY2025.
* Femtech is a term combining Female and Technology, and refers to products and services that use technology to address health issues that are unique to women, such as menstruation, infertility, pregnancy and childbirth, and menopause.
Based on the results of the five-year demonstration project, and in order to help companies and other organizations visualize how to introduce Femtech, METI has compiled the know-how, key points for utilization, and examples obtained from the demonstration project and released it as the Guidance for Companies and Local Governments on Introducing Femtech to Address Women's Health Issues.
2. Overview of the Guidance
This Guidance (see Related Material) is intended to be used as a manual by companies, local governments, and other organizations when considering the introduction of Femtech as one measure in addressing women's health issues.
This Guidance systematically organizes the fundamental concepts, procedures, and steps to take in introducing Femtech, providing information to help organizations consider initiatives tailored to their specific circumstances.
This Guidance is primarily intended for business owners and managers responsible for human resource strategies and workplace environment development. It features examples of Femtech products and services tailored to health issues and outlines the five steps for introducing Femtech into an organization, various data to help explain the necessity and benefits of its introduction within the organization, and actual examples of introducing Femtech, all presented in an easy-to-understand format.
